Obituary of Alfred Ferrara
Alfred Ferrara 89 years, of Salem and formerly of Peabody, former husband of the late Shirley (Sprague) Ferrara, died Sunday at his home after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Ferrara was born April 13, 1924 in Boston son of the late George and Nancy (Tranfaglia) Ferrara. He was raised and educated in East Boston. During WWII he served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant with the 546th Field Artillery Battalion Medical Detachment and served in the European Theater and saw battle on many fronts. In November 1945 he was in Munchen Germany. He moved to Peabody in 1951 and resided there until his moving to Salem in 1970.
Following the War, Mr. Ferrara was employed for several years at the G.E. Riverworks in Lynn and then worked for 29 years at several leather companies in Peabody prior to his retirement in 1974 from the former A.C. Lawrence Leather Company.
He was a member of the VFW Fidelity Post 1011 in Peabody and was an avid dancer who attended the single dances at the K of C Leo Council 508 in Peabody and later taught dancing to the Seniors at the Salem Senior Center. He was an accomplished artist, loved reading and was very knowledgeable on vintage WWII airplanes. He had a love for scenery and traveled to Cape Cod and NH frequently.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Donna M. Robertson and Patricia Patti Ferrara both of Salem; his grandchildren, Rob and Ruth Robertson of Derry NH, Mike Robertson, Lisa Robertson both of Salem and Lori A. Ferrara of Wolfeboro NH; 2 great grandchildren, Ben and Katelyn Robertson of NH; 2 nephews, Red and Nick Morelli both of Everett; 2 cousins, Mike Maffews of Everett and Joe Bitetti of NH and also numerous other nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Joseph, Margaret, Helen , Mary and Louise.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody location (978-531-0398) Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Wednesday 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers MA 01923.
