Obituary of Maria de Fatima Cunha Isidro
Maria de Fatima Cunha Isidro, 78, of Peabody, died early Thursday morning at the Brudnick Centers for Living in Peabody following a lengthy illness. She was the devoted wife of Jose G Isidro with whom she shared over 50 years of marriage.
Born in Lagarinhos, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Joaquim and Maria da Luz (Borges) Goncalves. She was raised and educated in Portugal and in 1960 she immigrated to the United States and became a Naturalized Citizen in 1966. She has been living in Peabody for the past 57 years.
She was first employed as a stitcher for Duchess Shoes and later was an assembler for many years as PerkinElmer in Salem before retiring.
She loved to travel the world and spending time in her beloved garden in the backyard. Her favorite times were spent with family and friends, especially celebrating the 4th of July and Christmas Eve at her home. She was very active in the Portuguese community, Our Lady of Fatima Church and Choral group, and was a member of the Portuguese Continental Union, Lodge #10. She also volunteered at the Club Luis de Camoes for many years.
Besides her loving husband, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jose and Laurie Isidro of Peabody, her brother and sister-in-law, Joaquim and America Cunha of Peabody, her three sisters and brothers-in-law, Teresa and Francisco Mendonca, Emilia and Serafim Romano, and Lurdes and Delfim Fidalgo, all of Peabody, her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws, Joao and Rosa Isidro and Angelina Cardozo, all of Portugal, and Manuel and Emilia Isidro of Peabody, and is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Joseph, Emma, and Joshua Isidro of Peabody. She was predeceased by her son Alberto Isidro, her sister Elizabeth Cunha and her brother-in-law, Jose Cardozo. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held on Monday at 8:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Walsh Ave, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, North St, Salem.
