Obituary of Colleen A. (Johns) Letcher

Colleen A. (Johns) Letcher, 86, of Peabody, devoted wife of the late Daniel G. Letcher Sr. passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Meadow View Center in North Reading after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Colleen, daughter of the late George and Cecille (Moffitt) Johns, was born on December 3, 1930 in Pottsville, PA, where she was raised and educated. In 1964, she and her late husband Daniel moved to Peabody. Mrs. Letcher loved spending time with her children and grandchildren especially at her pool in the summertime. She also enjoyed gardening, arts and crafts, and traveling. Many people may remember her as a driving school instructor at Tanner City Auto School in Peabody where she was employed for over 25 years. Colleen is survived by her children and their spouses Barbara and Edward Bettencourt of Peabody, Cheryl Ann and William Jackman of Danvers, and Daniel G. Letcher Jr. of Peabody. Her cherished grandchildren Ted and Andrea Bettencourt, Karin Bettencourt, Julie and Thad Broughton, Kevin and Meghan Bettencourt, Gregory and Kerri Jackman, Melissa and Kevin Flynn; Her loving great grandchildren Taylor, Allyson, Avery, Thad, Brielle, Emily, Kelsey, Nicholas, Mia, and Keegan. She was also predeceased by her brother George "Corky" Johns. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caring staff at Meadow View Center and also to Compassionate Care Hospice. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, February 28th from 9:30AM to 11:00AM at Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home on 82 Lynn Street in Peabody which will follow with her mass of Christian burial at 12 noon at St. Adelaide's Church at 708 Lowell Street Peabody. The interment will be held at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
