Obituary of Joyce E (Farrell) McCarthy
Joyce E. (Farrell) McCarthy, 74 SALEM – Joyce E. (Farrell) McCarthy, 74, died unexpectedly on Wednesday February 22, 2017 at the Beverly Hospital, following a brief illness. Born in Salem she was the daughter of the late William J. and Anita (LaPointe) Farrell. She grew up in Salem and graduated from St. James High School in Salem. She later studied education at Salem State College and earned a Master’s degree. Ms. McCarthy taught Social Studies at the Collins Middle School in Salem for a fulfilling career, retiring about 11 years ago. Joyce enjoyed playing card games, social times with friends, and travel to Hawaii and Disney World among other places. She lived in West Virginia after retiring, and recently moved back to the North Shore living near family in Beverly. She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Wilson and her husband Carl M. Wilson, Sr. of Beverly and Deborah Iberra of CA; two grandchildren Jessica Parente and C. Michael Wilson, Jr; one great-grandson, Eli Parente; one brother William P. Farrell, Sr. and wife Gwen of Milford, CT and a sister Ann Marie Longley and her husband Grant of Ft. Meyers, FL, and several nieces and nephews. She was mother of the late Mary-Jo Crowell. A Private family gathering will be held.
