Obituary of Donald P. "Scuffy" Karpinski

Donald P “Scuffy” Karpinski, 89, of Peabody, died early Wednesday morning at the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home in Salem following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Jean A (Dedcovich) Karpinski. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Marjan and Leontyna (Sikorski) Karpinski. He was a life long resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School. Upon his graduation from high school, Donald enlisted with the United States Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. Donald was employed with his family business, Karpinski Brother’s Oil Company in Peabody as driver for many years before retiring. He was a fiercely loyal parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Peabody and continued to be long after the church closing. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Matczak and her husband Darek Matczak of Salem, his two grandchildren, Jennifer and Jonathan Matczak, his brother-in-law, Robert Turner of Melrose, and by several nieces and nephews. Besides his loving wife, he was predeceased by his son, David N Karpinski and his siblings, Vitalis “Scott”, Bernard, Harry, Natalie, and Wanda Karpinski, Eva Piekos, Margaret Thomas, Victoria Quinn, Dorothy Turner, and Phyllis Woodberry. His Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 11:45 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:45 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
