Obituary of Manuel Jose Furtado

Manuel Jose Furtado 73, of Peabody, husband of the late Diane (Rohdas) Furtado, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 17, 2017at the NSMC – Salem Hospital. Manuel was born in Sao Miguel Azores Portugal on December 13, 1943 son of the late Jose Pedro and Maria S. (Medeiros) Furtado. Raised and educated in Portugal he immigrated to the United States in the late 1960’s making his home in Peabody. After immigrating to the United States, Manuel was employed for many years as a Chef at the Hilton and Royal Sonesta Hotels. Later on he worked at J. J. Grant Co. in Braintree as a building dismantling and recycling worker until his retirement. Manuel made his own fishing nets, enjoyed listening to music, and he and his late brother Tony built bird cages as a hobby. Manuel is survived by his 3 children, Joseph Furtado and his significant other Katherine Page, Stephanie F. Medeiros and her husband Joao, and Brian Furtado all of Peabody; 2 cherished grandchildren, Eric Medeiros and Naomi Furtado; a brother, Joao Furtado and his wife Rene of IL; a sister, Maria Koxarakis and her husband Manuel of NH; a sister-in-law, Rose Furtado of NH, and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother Antonio Furtado. His family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, March 21st from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held from the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22nd followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1 Margin St., Peabody.
