Obituary of Kiernan Hayes
Kiernan Hayes JAFFREY, NH – Kiernan Hayes, 78, beloved husband of Patricia “Ann” (Collins) Hayes, died peacefully on Monday March 20, 2017 in the comforting presence of his family at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following an extended illness. Born in Knocklong, Limerick, Ireland, he was the son of the late Patrick and Margaret (McCarthy) Hayes. He grew up there and moved to Cheshire, England to continue his education. He originally met his future wife, Ann, in Wembley, England. They both emigrated to the United States, as Kiernan settled in the greater Chicago area and enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Kiernan earned a bachelor degree in accounting from DePaul University, Chicago. This education, as well as his experience working in the early years of computer technology, led to a successful career in data processing and main frame computing. In 1965 he married Ann and they lived in the Chicago area for 15 years before moving to Easton, CT. Kiernan spent the final years of his life with his beloved wife Ann in the beautiful surroundings of Jaffrey, NH. He enjoyed tending to his garden and being outdoors in nature. His children and grandchildren enjoyed many fun times with him at what they lovingly referred to as “Camp Hayes.” He loved traveling, especially returning to visit his family in Ireland and England. He enjoyed poetry and classic literature as well as Irish music. Kiernan’s greatest love was his family both near and far. He was beloved by all that knew him and was held in high esteem. He is survived by his wife Ann (Collins) Hayes of Jaffrey, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage; his son Kevin Hayes of CT; his daughter Maureen McDonough and her husband John of Lynn; two grandsons Sean Michael and Liam Kiernan McDonough both of Lynn. He is also survived by three brothers, Denis Hayes of Birmingham, England, John Hayes of London, England, and Daniel Hayes of Dunshaughlin, Ireland and two sisters Maureen O’Donnell of London, England and Breda Hayes-Wilkinson of Peterborough, England, and many nieces and nephews.
