Obituary of Valquiro Machado

Valquirio Machado, 65, of Crowninshield St., Peabody, died unexpectedly at home after being stricken on Wednesday. Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the Olivia (Conceicao) Machado of Peabody and the late Artur Machado. He lived in the Azores for nearly 20 years. He immigrated to the United States, settling in Peabody where he lived for the last 45 years. Mr. Machado worked 40 years as a Leather Worker for the Gneco & Grilke Leather Tannery in Peabody for many years and Lyons Leather before his retirement three years ago. He was a communicant at ST. Thomas the Apostle Church of Peabody & Salem. He is survived by a son, Robert Machado of Las Vegas, NV; one daughter, Lorene Machado of Danvers; three sisters, Maria Bettencourt of Peabody, Lidia Machado of North Reading, and Lenore Machado of Lynn; six brothers, Manuel Machado and Daniel Machado, both of Salem, Charlie Machado, Osvaldo Machado, and John Machado, all of Peabody; and Juvenal Machado of Montgomery, AL; he is also survived by two grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held on Monday at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
