Obituary of Robert F. Makie

Robert F. Makie 96, of Peabody, husband of Eleanor H. (Bell) Makie, passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers on Sunday, April 2, 2017. Mr. Makie was born in Allston, on November 27, 1920 son of Gustave and Matilda (Killinen) Makie. Raised and educated in Allston he graduated from Brighton High School and pursued his education at Wentworth Institute in Boston. In 1943 he enlisted into the U.S. Army and served as a PFC until being honorably discharged in 1946. Following his marriage in 1951, he and his wife made their home in Peabody. Robert was employed for 44 years as an administrator at the General Electric Riverworks Plant until his retirement in 1985. During his employment, he was also a mentor for the Junior Achievement Youth Organization. Robert was a loving and supportive provider to his family. He was an avid reader, and also enjoyed sports and traveling with his wife. In addition to his wife with whom he celebrated 65 years of marriage, he is survived by 2 daughters, Patricia A. Makie, and Elizabeth L. Makie both of Peabody, many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Aileen, Ina, Ellen, John and Francis Makie. His family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn Street Peabody, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody.
