Obituary of Diamantino Teixeira Bernardo

Diamantino Teixeira Bernardo PEABODY – Diamantino Teixeira Bernardo, 91, beloved husband of the late Acedelia Da Costa Fernandes Bernardo, died peacefully at his home on Monday April 3, 2017, following an extended illness, while in the comforting presence and surrounded by his loving family. Born in Villa Real, Portugal, he was the son of the late Domingos and Olivia (Texeira) Bernardo. He grew up there and came to the United States, settling in Peabody where he lived for the last 43 years. Mr. Bernardo worked with Cut Rite Leather in Peabody for many years. He also worked a short time in kitchen at Augustine’s Restaurant in Saugus. Diamantino enjoyed being outside, tending to his garden and grapevine. He enjoyed making homemade wine. He was happiest whenever family and friends would gather at home, and he especially enjoyed celebrating each of his family’s birthdays. He was always very devoted to his faith, which helped him after his wife’s death, and was a longtime communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody. He is survived by his sons and daughters, Dulce Bernardo of Goffstown, NH, Jose Bernardo of Peabody, Isabel Bernardo of Danvers, Maria Rosa Bernardo of Peabody, Lucilia Middlemiss of Dover, NH, Albertino Bernardo of Groveland, and John Bernardo of Peabody; seven grandchildren, Carisa, Amanda, Amy, Joshua, Shawn, Olivia, and Lillie and a great-grandchild Tyler. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday April 7, 2017 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
