Obituary of Dr. John S Parianos
Dr. John S Parianos, beloved husband of Cynthia (Maravelias) Parianos, passed away peacefully Sunday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a lengthy illness.
Born in Salem on November 4, 1932, he was the son of the late Stavros and Irene (Kalyvakis) Parianos of Samos, Greece. John was raised and educated in Peabody. After high school he received his undergraduate degree from Tufts University and then continued on to the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and graduated in 1959 with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Following graduation John served in the United States Air Force in Texas and was transferred to Washington, D.C. where he served as resident dentist for Air Force One during President Kennedy’s term in office. He then transferred to Otis Air Force Base in Falmouth until he was honorably discharged in 1962. John returned to his hometown of Peabody to begin his dental practice on Main Street for the next 35 years. In 1976 he formed a partnership and friendship with Dr. Robert Stein that continued beyond his retirement.
John was a dedicated member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church and St. Vasilios Men’s Club. He was a lifelong member of AHEPA. John was proud to be instrumental in developing and implementing a Modern Greek Language course at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School. An avid and passionate golfer, he was a member of Tedesco and Salem Country clubs. After retirement he enjoyed playing in the senior league at The Meadows Peabody with his best friend and brother in law, Charles Papandreou, where he held a 14 handicap. John took pride in mentoring his grandson Athan Goulos during his high school and college golf career. He was honored when Athan presented his “Papou” with the All-New England trophy from Endicott College that he was awarded this past fall.
Besides his loving wife Cynthia, he is survived by his adoring daughters Rennie Petrovitsis and her husband Stephen, and Valerie Goulos and her husband John. He is predeceased by his beloved son Stephen who passed away in January. John has 7 devoted grandchildren who loved him deeply; James, John, Justin, Jordan Petrovitsis and Andrea, Theo, Athan Goulos. He also leaves his sister Maria Rouvalis, brother in law Charles Papandreou, devoted friend Sussena Nadeau and many nieces and nephews. John was a genuine, honorable, loving and proud husband, father, grandfather, friend; we will honor his legacy in our hearts forever...
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn Street in Peabody. Funeral services will be held Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody. Family and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church at 7 Paleologos St. in Peabody or Kaplan Family Hospice House at 78 Liberty Street in Danvers.
