Obituary of Dorothy Evans (Grasso) Johns

Dorothy Dede Evans (Grasso) Johns, 76, of Peabody and formerly of East Boston, died early Wednesday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a lengthy illness. She was the devoted wife of Joseph Johns, Sr., with whom she shared over 57 years of marriage. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Margaret (Ackerburg) Grasso. She was raised and educated in Boston and attended Boston Public Schools. She was a loving mother and grandmother who dedicated her time and energy for her family, and she also had a great sense of humor. She also enjoyed playing bingo, gambling, and traveling to Foxwood’ s, Atlantic City, and Las Vegas. Wednesday’ s were her favorite day of the week, and she enjoyed to lunch on that day with her friends and family. Besides her loving husband, she is survived by a son, Joseph Johns, Jr., of Punta Gorda, Fla, a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Steven Sylvanowicz of Peabody, a brother, Domenic Grasso of Malden and a sister, Grace LeBlanc of Revere. She also is survived by four grandchildren, Kristen Cummings, and Emily, Ashley, and Natalie Sylvanowicz, a great grandchild, Asia, as well as several nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St.,Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Adelaide’ s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St., Danvers, MA 01923.
