Obituary of Jose Goncalves Isidro
Jose Gonçalves Isidro, 81, of Peabody, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the Brudnick Centers for Living in Peabody. He was the devoted husband of Maria de Fatima Cunha Isidro who passed on February 23, 2017 and with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage. Born and raised in Arcozelo da Serra, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose Augusto and Maria da Soledade Goncalves Isidro. In 1966, he immigrated to the United States, became a Naturalized Citizen in 1970, and lived in Peabody for the past 51 years. Jose was employed by AC Lawrence in Peabody, the Portuguese Continental Union and then General Electric in Lynn until his retirement. He also received the IUE Life Membership from Local 201. Jose and his late wife Maria loved traveling the world, spending time with family and friends, and especially celebrating the 4th of July and Christmas Eve at their home. He was very active in the Portuguese community, Our Lady of Fatima Church, was a member and former Board of Director of the Portuguese Continental Union, a member and former Board of Director of the Portuguese Continental Union Lodge #10, and also volunteered for many years at the Club Luis de Camoes. He was an accomplished musician. He wrote music for marching bands. He was a member of Banda Filarmónica Amizade de Arcozelo da Serra, Portugal. He was also a founding member and the First Conductor “Maestro” of the Portuguese Marching Band in Peabody. He was also a former President of Escola Portuguesa de Peabody. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jose and Laurie Isidro of Peabody, his loving grandchildren, Joseph, Emma, and Joshua Isidro of Peabody; his brother and sister-in-law, Joao and Rosa Isidro, his sister, Angelina Cardozo all of Portugal and his brother and sister-in-law Manuel and Emilia Isidro of Peabody; four sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law, Joaquim and America Cunha, Francisco and Teresa Mendonca, Serafim and Emilia Romano, and Delfim and Lurdes Fidalgo, all of Peabody, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Alberto Isidro, his brother Virgílio Gonçalves Isidro, Virgílio José Gonçalves Isidro, his sister Maria do Santos Gonçalves Isidro, his sister-in-law Elizabeth Cunha and his brother-in-law, Jose Cardozo. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham, MA 02452. His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, April 24, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held from the funeral home at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25th followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave, Peabody.
