Obituary of William E. Kelley, III

William E. Kelley, III BEVERLY – William E. Kelley, III, 80, died unexpectedly on Sunday April 23, 2017 at the Lahey Medical Center in Burlington from a brief illness, while in the comforting presence of his family. Born in Beverly, he was the son of the late William E. and M. Doris (Courtney) Kelley. He grew up and lived most of his life in Beverly. He graduated from St. John’s Preparatory High School in Danvers, then later graduated from Northeastern University. He enlisted in the United States Army, and served in Germany during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of First Lieutenant. Mr. Kelley served as the C.E.O. of Carter-Rice Paper Company of Boston for many years as they merged with Hammermill Paper, retiring with the next merger with International Paper Company. After his retirement he accepted a role as Senior Vice-President with Mohawk Paper Company of New York. Bill was an athletic person who enjoyed many sports. He had a strong passion for golf and was a member at Salem Country Club for over 30 years. He also loved skiing and spent time with his family in the North Conway, NH area. He always made time as an avid sports fan for the Boston sports teams, notably the Red Sox and Patriots. He was very dedicated to his family, and remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother and husband. He is survived by three daughters, Janet & her husband Nils Gjesteby of Winchester, Brenda & her husband William Wolter of Washington, D.C., and Carolyn & her husband Kevin Shea of Lynnfield and five grandchildren. He was the beloved husband of 25 years to the late Ann (Campbell) Kelley and was the husband of Elizabeth (Costello) Kelley of Bolton, and brother of Robert Kelley, Margaret Kelley, and Richard & his wife Barbara Kelley all of Beverly, and he leaves several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends, and brother of the late Ann C Kelley, S.N.D. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday May 2, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church, Cabot St., Beverly. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4:30 – 7:30 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly. Memorial donations may be made to the Perkins School for the Blind, 175 North Beacon St., Watertown, MA 02472 or to a charity of one’s choice.
