Obituary of Penelope (Macrinotis) Karahalis

Penelope (Macrinotis) Karahalis, 90, of Peabody, died Saturday evening at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington with her family by her side following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late John A. Karahalis. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Panayiota (Sigalos) Macrinotis. She was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1943. Mrs. Karahalis was a longtime partner in business with her husband, and was currently President of Colonial Manor Associates, Inc., a real estate property management company. She was a longtime member of the Salem Country Club in Peabody. She enjoyed playing golf, tennis and bridge. Penelope was a devoted and longtime, faithful member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody where she was quite involved with many activities. She was on the P.T.A. and enjoyed good memories on the Delphi Ball Committee. She was also a past member of the Philoptochos Society. She will be remembered for her loving kindness, and as a devoted wife, mother, aunt and friend and missed by those who knew her. She is survived by her two sons, Alan J Karahalis of Peabody and Andrew J. Karahalis of Providence, RI and her daughter Paula Karahalis of Gloucester; she is also survived by her three nieces and their husbands, Julia and Stephen Velonis, Lana and Bob Danish, and Susan and Bob DeVenne. She was predeceased by her four brothers, Louis, James, Nicholas, and Charles Macrinotis. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St. Peabody. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial Donations may be made to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
