Obituary of Deolinda G. Bettencourt
Deolinda G. Bettencourt, 90, of Peabody, died Tuesday morning at her residence following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Manuel Cirino Bettencourt.
Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Sarafina (Ramos) Gil. She was raised and educated in Portugal, later moved back to Peabody and has been living in Peabody for the past 55 years.
She first worked for Sylvania in Salem and later for the Alfa Company in Woburn as a solderer before retiring in 1977.
She was a member of the Portuguese American Civic League, the Portuguese Mission, which later became Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody where she was very active in the parish and choir, and she also was a member of the Golden Agers Society, the Azorean Brotherhood of the Holy Ghost. She volunteered at the Peter A. Torigian Community Life Center in Peabody
She is survived by a son Armindo Bettencourt of Peabody, a daughter, Elza M. Bettencourt of Peabody; a sister, Maria Vieira of Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, a step son, David Medina of Sao Miguel, Portugal, a step-brother, Gabriel Bettencourt of San Louis Obispo, Cal, a step-sister, Alexandria Nix of Ariy, Ga., 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John Gil and Antonio Bettencourt.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at 10:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
