Obituary of Steven James Batakis

Steven James Batakis 21, of Peabody, a Junior at the University of New Hampshire, studying Environmental Resource Economics, died at Portsmouth Regional Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Durham NH on May 4, 2017. Born in Beverly Mass. on March 24, 1996 son of Alan P. and Sandra J. (Harris) Batakis. Raised and educated in Peabody, he graduated from Peabody Veterans Memorial High School class of 2014. Steven was the most confident, energetic, optimistic and charismatic young man you would ever meet. He really embodied the saying "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone". He brightened your day and picked you up when you are down and would bring out the best in everyone. The world will not be the same without his optimism. He loved making music, especially jamming with friends using anything he could make music with, from a guitar or piano, to a Djembe or didgeridoo or a kazoo for that matter. He introduced many friends to camping in Maine where they would ride Sea-Doos, motorcycles or 4X4s. He loved to snowboard, and would skateboard daily with Bear his 3-year-old Siberian Husky who raced in front pulling him down the street. In addition to his parents, Steven is survived by 3 loving sisters Alexis, Ashley and Samantha all of Peabody; 3 grandmothers, Josephine Batakis of Peabody, Rose Harris of Falmouth ME and Janet Densmore of Kingston NH; aunts and uncles, James Harris, Paul and Margaret Batakis, John and Tracey Batakis, and Christine (Batakis) Carroll, and numerous close friends, who considered him their brother. Everyone is encouraged to come and celebrate Steven's life at a public service on Friday, May 12th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. If you have any pictures of Steven, we would appreciate you bringing them and placing them on the picture boards. If you would like to make a charitable donation, Steven would want to help animals find forever homes and bring music education to children in need. Our local animal shelter is Northeast Animal Shelter (www.northeastanimalshelter.org), and we support Music and Youth ( www.musicandyouth.org) to help give kids access to music education.
