Obituary of Robert L. "Bob" Poole

Robert L. “Bob” Poole 71, of Salem, passed away peacefully at his home in the presence of his loving family on Monday, May 15, 2017. He was the loving husband of Mary E. (O’Rourke) Poole with whom he celebrated 39 years of marriage. Bob was born in Lawrence on April 23, 1946, son of the late Lawrence R. and Irene (Scarth) Poole. Raised and educated in Methuen and Haverhill he graduated from Haverhill High School Class of 1964. Bob enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps on July 7, 1964 and trained at Parris Island, SC and Camp Lejeune, NC. Bob attained the rank of Sergeant and served as an Embassy Guard in Tehran, Iran before being honorably discharged on June 1, 1968. From 1969, Bob was employed as a lineman with the Massachusetts Electric Company and National Grid in the Merrimac – Newburyport area, a position he held until his retirement in 2013. He dedicated his life to his family and then enjoyed spending countless hours with 2 grandchildren. Bob was a Patriots season ticket holder for many years, an avid golfer, enjoyed reading, and crossword puzzles. In addition to his wife Mary, Bob is survived by his children, Joshua J.L. Poole and his wife Katy L. of Peabody, Amanda E. Poole of Salem, and Jared R. Poole of Oceanside, CA; 2 cherished grandchildren, Cameron and Allyson Poole of Peabody; a brother-in-law, John “J” Anderson of MD and many other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews and numerous friends. He was also predeceased in 2016 by his sister Carol Anderson. His family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, May 18th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His Celebration of Life service will be held in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 19th. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Amanda E. Poole Irrevocable Special Needs Trust, c/o Eastern Bank, 37 Foster St., Peabody, MA 01960. A family committal of ashes will be held at a later time.
