Obituary of Francisco P. "Frank" Saraiva
Francisco P. “Frank” Saraiva 89, of Peabody, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Lahey Clinic North in Peabody. Born in Peabody, on December 11,1927, son of Francisco P. and Hylda (Prosper) Saraiva, he was raised and educated in Peabody. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1945 and was honorably discharged as a Seaman 2nd Class in 1946. In 1962, he moved to Danvers returning to Peabody in 2012. Frank was employed for 25 years as a maintenance mechanic at Eastman Gelatine Company until his retirement. Prior to this, he had owned and operated a landscaping company, and had also worked at several leather companies and at St. John the Baptist Church. He was a member and volunteered at the Portuguese American War Veteran Post #1, the VFW Fidelity Post 1011 and the American Legion Post 153 all in Peabody, was also a member of the K of C in Danvers and the Vittori-Rocci Post 56 in Beverly. As hobbies, he enjoyed repairing small lawnmower and snow blower engines, and building model airplanes and ships. Frank is survived by his fiancée Lorraine (Cody) Cone of Peabody, a son and his wife, Dennis and Lori Saraiva of Amesbury; his cherished grandchildren, Lauren Messinger and her husband Stephen of Jamaica Plain, and Sophia Saraiva of Amesbury; a great granddaughter, Penelope Messinger; a brother-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law, John and Shirley Spiridigliozzi of Beverly Farms, and Dora Spiridigliozzi of Hamilton, and many nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his wife Anne T. (Spiridigliozzi) Saraiva with whom he shared 61 years of marriage and his son David Saraiva who passed away in 1971. His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, June 5th, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held at 8 a.m. from the funeral home on Tuesday, June 6th, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Richard’s Church, 90 Forest Street, Danvers. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Frank’s memory to the Portuguese American War Veterans Post 1, 103 Tremont St., Peabody, MA 01960.
