Obituary of Helen M. (Duc) Gaieski
Helen M. (Duc) Gaieski, 85, of Peabody, died Sunday morning at her home following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Ret. Lt. Col, John K. Gaieski, USMC.
Born in Chelsea, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Stella (Szoda) Duc. She was raised and educated in Chelsea and was a graduate of Chelsea High School, class of 1936. From 1943 until 1955 she had resided between Camp Pendleton, Vista California, and Chelsea, before settling in Peabody in 1955.
She was the owner/operator of the Warren Lunch in Peabody for over 50 years. She was a member of St. Joseph’ s Holy Rosary Society, Ladies Guild, and St. Cecelia’ s Choir. She also was a member of the Thoroughbred Fans of New England.
She enjoyed listening to music and opera, bowling, bingo, and was involved with Girl Scouts. She upheld the family Polish Traditions and Foods with her family and customers.
She is survived by a son, Ret Lt. Col, John M Gaieski, USMC of Shawnee, Kansas; three daughters; Marcia Kanarakis of Bathurst, NSW, Australia, Carol Gaieski of Peabody and Patricia Vega of Melrose; two sisters, Dana Sharon of San Diego, Cal., and Stella Duc of Honolulu, Hawaii; grandmother of Fofi and Evan Kanarakis of Sydney, Australia, Stephanie, Jennifer, and Andrew Lane, all of Peabody, and Julie Gaieski of Lynn. She was the mother of the late Michael Gaieski and Mary Lane, sister of the late Frances Cross and Joseph Duc, and grandmother of the late John Eric Gaieski.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’ s Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Thursday from 4 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
