Obituary of Maria (Antunes) Almeida

Maria C. (Antunes) Almeida, 90, of Peabody, died Saturday evening at the Rosewood Nursing Center, Peabody after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Joao de Almeida. She was born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal, the daughter of the late Antonio and Rosa (Silva) Antunes and came to Peabody in 1960. In 1971, she returned to Portugal for 15 years before moving back to Peabody 16 years ago. She had been employed at the Duchess Footwear Co. in Salem For 10 years. She loved dancing and being with her family. She is survived by a son, Antonio Almeida of Tewksbury,2 daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Cripps of Lynn and Nelita and Howard Le Blanc of Londonderry, NH, a Sister and brother-in-law, Zilda and Dan Rosa of Peabody, a sister-in-law, Maria Antunes of Peabody, 4 grandchildren, Michelle, Anthony, Tracey and Jimmy, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Manuel Antunes. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’ s Church, Peabody at 11:00 a.m. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
