Obituary of Joseph E. "Joe" Cavallon

Joseph E. “Joe” Cavallon 88, of Peabody, husband of Catherine L. “Katie” (Canavan) Cavallon, passed away unexpectedly at Mass General Hospital on Monday, June 12, 2017. Born in Peabody on January 19, 1929, son of Biagio and Filomina (Regis) Cavallon he graduated from Peabody High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946 and served as a Military Policeman and in 1948, he re-enlisted into the National Guard and remained until his being honorably discharged as a Captain in 1983. Joe was employed as a leather worker in Peabody a career which extended for 47 years. Prior to his retirement he owned and operated the JEC Tanning Company located on Foster Street for 5 years. As a parent, he was very supportive to his 2 daughters endeavors and was so proud of his 2 grandsons and most recently of his greatgrandchildren. He was a Past President of the Italian American Citizens Club and where he had a passion for cooking he was in the kitchen doing so for their monthly meals, and attending the meals at Portuguese American Veteran Post #1. Joe was an avid golfer and a member of the Alhambra Shriners. In addition to his wife Katie with whom he celebrated 67 years of marriage, he is survived by 2 daughters, Linda Cavallon, and Debra “Debby” Crean and her husband Leonard all of Peabody, 2 loving grandson and their wives, Michael and Katie Crean of FL, Mark and Anna Crean of Peabody, and 6 cherished great grandchildren, Victoria, McKenzie, Eva, Elliott, Catalena and Lacey; a brother-in-law, John Canavan of Peabody; 2 sisters-in-law, Dorothy “Dottie” Aylward of Peabody, and Margaret “Peggy” Canty of Wakefield and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Dominic Cavallon and Margaret Devost. His family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, June 16th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held from the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday June 17th followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 260 North St., Salem.
