Luiza L. (De Lourdes) Eiro
PEABODY – Luiza L. (De Lourdes) Eiro, 100, beloved wife of the late Frank Eiro with whom she enjoyed 62 years of marriage, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday June 13, 2017, following a brief illness.
Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Maria De Lourdes Bettencourt. She lived there in her younger years, and came to the United States in 1951, settling in Peabody where she lived for 65 years.
Mrs. Eiro was a stitcher at New England Sportswear of Peabody for several years before retiring.
Luiza was talented with a needle, doing crochet, knitting and related crafts. She enjoyed tending to her garden, and cooking and baking were a joy for her to share with family as a nurturing mother, wife, and grandmother. As a giving and generous person, she helped make afghan comforters for veteran groups, and earned recognition and awards form the Santa’s Magic Organization as well as won an Elf award. She was devoted in her faith and longtime member at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody, and a member of the Our Lady of Help, and the Azorean Brotherhood of the Holy Ghost Society in Peabody. She will be remembered for her wonderful traits of faith, her insistence on quality craftsmanship, and passion for family and friends.
She is survived by three daughters, Maria Lourdes Eiro and Virginia Faria and her husband Anibal Faria all of Ipswich, and Glorinda Sweeney of Gloucester; 12 grandchildren, Rico Mello and his wife Danielle, Marco Mello, Ceroi Mello and his wife Jennifer, Rieco Mello and his wife Jill, Corei Mello and his wife Renee, Milu Sanderson and her husband Sean, Michael Faria and his wife Patricia, Dona Gilligan and her husband Paul, David Faria, John Sweeney and his wife Katherine, Eileen Masiero and her husband Paul, and Richard Sweeney, and the late Erico Mello; 26 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late Jose Bettencourt, Manuel Lorenco, Maria Bettencourt and Virginia Bettencourt.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Tuesday June 20, 2017 at 8 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Monday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
