Obituary of Cecile M. (Vachon) Marquis

Cecile M. Marquis, 89, formerly of Peabody MA, died Sunday in Portland, ME after a sudden illness. She was the wife of the late Leo J. Marquis with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. She was born in Thetford Mines, Quebec, Canada on May 12, 1914, the daughter of the late Odias and Laura (Roy) Vachon, she moved to Peabody, MA with her family and was educated at St. John the Baptist Grammar School and graduated from Peabody High School class of 1933. She was a homemaker as well as an accomplished seamstress. A devout Catholic, she was active as a volunteer in St. John’ s Church serving as a Prefect to the Ladies Sodality and was also a Eucharistic Minister for many years. In July of 2002, she moved to Foreside Harbor, ME to live near her daughter. She had a full and vibrant life there making friends quickly with both residents and staff. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Maryanne and Stephen Strand of Yarmouth, ME, a son and daughter - in-law, Philippe L. and Barbara Marquis of Aurora, CO; 7 grandchildren, Robert Colannino of Palm Harbor, FL,Michael Colannino of Denver, No.Carolina, Michelle Huffman of ILL, Phillippe Marquis of Aurora, CO, Raymond Marquis of Portsmouth, NH, and Peter and Anne Strand of Yarmouth, ME, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Diane M. Colannino and Raymond P. Marquis and the grandmother of the late Laurie Ann Colannino and sister of the late Eva Denis. Her Funeral will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m . from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’ s Church,Peabody at 11:00 a.m. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
