Obituary of Lena (Stamation) Metaxatos

Lena (Stamation) Metaxatos, 82, of Danvers, and formerly of Peabody, died early Wednesday morning at the Beverly Hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of Angelo Metaxatos with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. She was born in Peabody on November 8, 1923, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Evangeline (Hatzigeorge) Stamation and was raised and educated here before moving to Danvers 53 years ago. During World War 11, she had been employed at the GTE Sylvania Plants in Danvers and Salem. She later was a waitress for many years at the Century House in Peabody prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Philopothos Society and St. Vasilios Church. She enjoyed traveling, boating and cruising and watching the storms along the seacoast of the North Shore. Surviving her besides her husband are two sons and daughters-in-law, Harry and Kitsa Metaxatos of Denver, No. Carolina, and Nicholas and Susan Metaxatos of Peabody, two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Richard Knowlton of Peabody and Anastasia and Angelo Karazurna of Tucson, AZ, 2 sisters, Mary Febonio of Danvers and Isemene Dukas of Saugus, 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late George Stamation, Irene Diskus and Connie Barras. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility. Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00 am from the Funeral Home followed by Services in St. Vasilios Church, Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
