Obituary of Sr. Agnes Marie Murphy SND

Sister Agnes Marie Murphy SND, 98, of Ipswich died Thursday at the St. Julie Billiart Residential Care House in Ipswich. Sr. Murphy was born Margaret Bernadette Murphy on March 24, 1908 in Lawrence, daughter of the late Mortimor D. A. and Johanna (Breen) Murphy. Sr. Murphy entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur at Waltham Novitiate on January 5, 1929, professed her First Vows on July 31, 1931 and her Perpetual Vows on July 30, 1937. Sister received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Emmanuel College in Boston. Sr. Murphy’ s Ministries were in Dorchester, Salem, Needham, Worcester, Boston, Beverly Farms and for many years at St. John the Baptist School in Peabody. Upon her retirement from teaching she made her home at the Sisters of Notre Dame Residence in Ipswich. Many nieces, nephews and her family the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur survive Sr. Murphy. Her siblings James, Garrett, Beth and Julia Murphy, Mary Perry, Josephine Holland, Sr. Rita of Mary SND and Helen Moore pre deceased her. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady Queen Chapel on Saturday May 6, 2006 at 4 p.m. at the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur Residence, 30 Jeffrey’ s Neck Rd., Ipswich. Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 2 to 4 p.m. Burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, Ipswich. Memorial Contributions may be made in her memory to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur Retirement Fund, 30 Jeffrey’ s Neck Rd., Ipswich, MA 01938.
