Obituary of Carl L. Rodenhiser

Carl Leonard Rodenhiser, 89, of Peabody, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a brief illness. He was the husband of his high school sweetheart Shirley (Dunn) Rodenhiser with whom he shared almost 67 years of marriage. He was born in Melrose, MA on March 4, 1928, the son of the late Carl H. and Marion (Johnson) Rodenhiser and was raised in West Newbury and was a graduate of West Newbury High School. He then entered the US Navy in June 1946 serving two years. He then entered Springfield College. In 1951, he enlisted in the US Army and served in the Korean War. Following the Korean War, he went back to college for his Bachelor’s Degree for P.E. He entered the private life as a teacher and found out it was not for him. He then enrolled in the Officer’s Candidate School as a 2nd Lt. and served for twenty years in the Army during the Vietnam War retiring in 1973 as a Major. Upon his discharge, he became a research analyst at Dynamics Research Co, in Wilmington for twenty years retiring in 1993. Carl enjoyed his summers in the Belgrade Lakes region of Maine and wintering down in Del Ray Beach, Florida. He liked to tinker fixing up and doing repairing jobs around the home and was an avid Boston Sports fan. He also enjoyed gardening and boating on the lakes in Maine, but his favorite time was spent being with his family. Surviving him besides his wife are his children, Karen Harwood and her husband Donald of Salem, MA, Alan L. Rodenhiser and his wife Christine of Methuen, Judy Sudak and her husband Alan and Sheryll DiFelice and her fiancé Kevin Crotty all of Peabody, his cherished eleven grandchildren, Jarrod, Sarah, Justin, Jason, Jonathan, Joseph, Jesse, Jeremy, Rachel, Jillian and Alyssa, his nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Carl Leslie Rodenhiser and the brother of the late Paul Rodenhiser. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 3:00 until 6:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St, Peabody facility. His Funeral Service will be held there on Monday at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Bridge St. Cemetery, West Newbury with military honors.
