Obituary of Maria (Teixeira) Antunes

Maria (Teixeira) Antunes 99, of Peabody, wife of the late Manuel C. Antunes, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at the Care One at Essex Park in Beverly with her family at her side. Mrs. Antunes was born in Manhattan, NY on February 15, 1918 daughter of Antonia and Amelia (DeRosario) Antunes. Raised and educated in Portugal, she moved to Peabody in 1949. Mrs. Antunes was employed at Ideal Baby Shoe, Peters Laundry, New England Sportswear and CBS Hytron in Danvers. Following her retirement in 1965 she and her late husband resided in Portugal returning to Peabody in 1985. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family and friends, and also enjoyed traveling, cooking and making people laugh. Mrs. Antunes is survived by her son, Antonio T. “Tony” Antunes of Peabody; a daughter, Mary O. Demala of Beverly and her companion George Cromidas of Danvers; 4 grandchildren, Karl Antunes, Karen Antunes, Kendra Mendonca and Kerri Deurloo; 4 great grandchildren; her siblings, Martha Martins of Peabody, and Armando Teixeira of Portugal, and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her siblings Anibal Teixeira, Antonio Teixeira and Marguerita Ferreira. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, July 21st from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by her service at 11:30 a.m. As per her request the interment will be private.
