Obituary of Alice (Tavares) Dufour

Alice (Tavares) Dufour R.N. 75, of Sinclair, Me. and formerly of Peabody, Ma., died Tuesday evening at the Harborside at Twin Oaks Nursing Center in Danvers after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Lionel Dufour. She was born in Peabody Ma. On October 1, 1928, the daughter of the late Joseph C. and Laurentina (Silva) Tavares, she was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1946 and Beverly Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. She was a registered nurse at the former J.B.Thomas Hospital in Peabody for 13 years. She then became a supervisor at the former Danvers State Hospital for 18 years prior to her retirement . Following her retirement, she resided in Maine for the past 20 years and loved to go snowmobiling. She also was a member of the Army medical Reserve Unit for 18 years. She enjoyed stamp collecting. She is survived by 2 brothers, George Tavares of Taunton, Ma and Manuel Tavares of St. Petersburg, Fl., 2 sisters, Grace Madruga and Mary Almeida both of Peabody, Ma., her godchildren, Kathleen Robertson, Ronald Madruga and Robert Tavares and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Joseph, William and Arthur Taveres. Her funeral will be held on Friday at 9:00 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Church Peabody at 10:00 a.m. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
