Obituary of Alice M. (Foley) (Tavano) Hourihan

Alice M. (Foley) (Tavano) Hourihan, 94 PEABODY – Alice M. (Foley) (Tavano) Hourihan, 94, passed away peacefully July 14th at the Hathorne Hill Skilled Nursing & Rehab Facility in Danvers with her children by her side. Born in Salem, she was the only child of Joseph J. and Alice M. (Cronin) Foley. Alice graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1940. She then attended Salem Vocational School. Alice worked for the Rationing Board in Salem during World War II. After the war, she went to work for the Veterans Administration in Boston where she met her first husband Felix Tavano. They were married in June 1946 until his passing on July 14, 1948. She then returned to work at the V.A. Alice met her second husband Joseph Hourihan commuting home from Boston on the B & M Railroad. They square danced many years with the Riverside Squares in Danvers. They enjoyed 46 years of marriage prior to Joe’s passing in 2000. She leaves her daughter Rose Tavano of Swampscott and her son Joe Hourihan and his partner Bettie Waters Jervah of Peabody. On behalf of the Hourihan family, “We want to thank all the nurses and CNA’s from Hathorne Hill for the wonderful care they gave our mother. We also want to give special thanks to the people from Compassus Hospice who cared for our mother at the end of her life.” A private Family Funeral Service was held with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Salem. Memorial donations may be made to either the Peabody Council on Aging or to Compassus Hospice, 790 Turnpike St #302, North Andover, MA 01845.
