Obituary of Phyllis A. (Newton) Cosman
Phyllis A. (Newton) Cosman, 87 PEABODY – Phyllis A. (Newton) Cosman, 87, beloved wife of the late Francis E. Cosman, died peacefully on Monday July 24, 2017 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers while in the comforting presence of her loving family, following an extended illness. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Sidney and Nellie (Hartman) Newton. She graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1947. She later graduated from Fay Secretarial School, Class of 1948. She lived in Middleton for 34 years, and lived most of her life in Peabody. Phyllis was quite active with her church and singing. She was a longtime member at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Peabody which was later All Saint’s Episcopal in Danvers. She sang in St. Paul’s Choir, and at weddings & funerals. Additionally she sang with the Brooksby Village Protestant Choir and Brooksby Chorus Group. Phyllis enjoyed her time volunteering for the Brooksby Library. Phyllis was deeply rooted historically in this area and was a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Col. Timothy Pickering Chapter of Salem, and the Piscataqua Pioneers. She and the love of her life Fran enjoyed their cottage on Square Pond in Shapleigh, ME, wintering at their home in Florida, and extensively traveling. She is survived by four nephews, James LaBelle of Acton, ME, Robert LaBelle and his wife Kathleen (Driscoll) of Manchester, NH, Mark LaBelle and his wife Robbin (LaDue) of Acton, ME, and Richard LaBelle and his wife Linda (Torres) of Grand Prairie, TX, eight grand-nieces & grand-nephews, and four great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews, as well as other extended family and friends. Besides her husband and parents, she was the sister of the late Priscilla (LaBelle) Winsor. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to her Funeral Service on Friday July 28, 2017 at 9:30 AM at the Brooksby Village Chapel, Peabody, and to gather for visitation on Thursday from 4 – 7 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to the Brooksby Benevolent Fund, 300 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody, MA 01960.
