Obituary of Joseph "Arthur" Hazel

Joseph Arthur Hazel, 86, died Saturday morning at the Essex Park Rehab and Nursing Center in Beverly, following a long illness. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Leroy and Mathilda (Brindamour) Hazel. He was a lifelong resident of the city. Mr. Hazel was a veteran of World War II, with service in the United States Army, and was discharged as a Corporal. He was a self-employed Carpenter and Mechanic. Serving his patriotic duty was important to Mr. Hazel, and he remained loyal as a veteran, part of the Greatest Generation, by actively serving as a member of the V.F.W. Fidelity Post 1011, the Disabled American Veterans Post 100, and the American Legion Post 153 all of Peabody. He served as Past Junior and Senior Vice Commander at the V.F.W. He was also involved on the national scale as a member of the Order of the Cooties. He is survived by: a brother, Maurice E. Hazel of Haverhill; two sisters, Alma Theresa Cooke of Billerica, and Leona M. Nagy of Cleveland, OH; several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by a brothers Ralph Hazel and Eugene Norton Hazel, and sisters Ada Blanche Furey and Jeanne C. Whitcomb Rossignol. His Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St. location, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. A visitation will be held today from 4 to 8 P.M. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to the V.F.W. Charitable Fund, 20 Stephens St., Peabody, MA 01960.
