Obituary of John E. Berra, Sr.

John E. Berra, Sr. PEABODY – John E. Berra, Sr., beloved husband of the late Ella (Darrah) Berra, died peacefully on Saturday July 1, 2017 at the Rosewood Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center in Peabody. Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late Orestes and Beatrice (O’Sullivan) Berra. He grew up there, and graduated from Somerville High School. He later received a Master’s Degree in Business from Boston College. Mr. Berra was a veteran of the Korean War, with service in the United States Army. He worked with Raytheon for a career as a project manager. John enjoyed watching movies of all kinds, and really enjoyed keeping abreast of news and what happens in the world, and following politics. Although he preferred a quiet life at home, he did enjoy an adventurous trip to play Poker at Foxwoods on occasion. He is survived by a son John Berra, Jr. of Peabody, three daughters Jeannine Colella of Danvers, Kathleen Reddish of Hanover, and Deborah Welch of Peabody, and he leaves nine grandchildren. He was the father of the late Susan Cottrell of FL. Following cremation, relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a Funeral Mass honoring John’s life on Thursday August 3, 2017 at 10 AM in Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Wakefield, followed by urn burial in Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield with Military Honors.
