Obituary of Nicholas Harris
Nicholas Harris,82, of Salem and formerly of Peabody, died Monday at the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home in Salem after a long illness. He was born in Peabody on January 28,1924, the son of the late Frank and Georgia (Smyrnios) Harris and resided there most of this life before moving to Salem 5 years ago.
He was a veteran of WW 11 serving overseas in the US Marine Corps for 3 years prior to his discharge in 1945.
He then worked with the Government for 32 years, first, in the Charlestown Naval Yard and later at the Salem Willows Coast Guard Station and finally at Hospital Point Lighthouse in Beverly retiring in 1980.
He loved to play golf and was an avid Red Sox Fan. He was a member of St. Vasilios Church in Peabody.
He is survived by his devoted long time companion, Ursula O’ Connor, of Salem, a brother, Hercules Harris of Newburyport, a sister-in-law, Stella Harris of Peabody, 2 nieces, Sandra Barnes of West Newbury and Georgia Harris of Peabody and a nephew, Charles Maihos of Hamilton. He was the brother of the late Christos Harris and Mary Psuik.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St.Peabody Facility. His Funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by Services in St. Vasilios Church, Peabody at 10:00 AM Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445 in his memory.
