Obituary of John Lawrence Mc Guirk
"Coach" John Lawrence Mc Guirk, 76, of West Peabody
died Saturday at his residence after a long illness. He was the husband of Vanita (Henderson) Mc Guirk with whom he shared52 years of marriage.
He was born in
Boston, Ma. on April 21, 1927, the son of thelate John and Emma (Duffy) Mc Guirk and
was raised in Hyde Park and graduated from the Mechanic Arts School in 1945. He then
entered the U.S. Army Air Corp serving as a Paratrooper overseas in Japan prior to his discharge.
He had been a machinist the John A. Carrier Corp in Burlington for 20 years. Later, he worked at the Snyder Machine Co. in Saugus for 15 years prior to his retirement 10
years ago.
He was one of the co-founders of the Peabody Youth Hockey and a director
in the learn-to skate program for many years. He also helped form the West Peabody
Little League and later the Babe Ruth League coaching and on the board of directors for
almost 20 years.
He and his wife,Vanita, have run the Mc Gurik Memorial Golf Tournament for the past 10 years .
Surviving him besides his wife are 4 sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Donna Mc Guirk of Peabody, John Brian an Jane
Mc Guirk and Douglas and Eileen Mc Guirk all of Danvers and James and Erica Mc Guirk of Haverhill, Ma.; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Susan Mc Guirk and Jacqueline and James Moran all of Peabody; 2 sisters, Mary Phyllis Scaccia of Pelham, NH and
Patricia Riley of Pocasset, Ma.; 8 grandchildren, Erin, Brian, Benjamin, and Brian
Mc Gurik, Luke and Michael Moran and Sean and Nicholas Allen, and many nieces and
Nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Elizabeth and Joshua Mc Guirk and the
Brother of the late Patrick and Mark Mc Guirk.
His Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Adelaide’ s Church, West Peabody at 11:00 a.m.
Visiting hours on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Relatives and friends are kindly
