Obituary of Philip L Freeman

Philip L Freeman, 66, of Beverly and formerly of Peabody, died early Saturday morning surrounded by his loving family following a long-fought battle with cancer at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was the devoted husband of Marie (Donahue) Freeman with whom he shared over 42 years of marriage. Born in Peabody, he was the son of Phyllis (Leake) Freeman of Peabody and the late William E Freeman, Sr. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School, class of 1969. He has lived in Beverly for the past 34 years. Following high school, Phil enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1975. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Phil began a 32-year career as a Police Patrolman for the City of Peabody. After retirement, he then was employed for an additional 15 years as a project superintendent with Dacon Corporation and later with Monitor Builders Inc. prior to his illness. Phil enjoyed watching all of Boston’s professional sports teams, loved golfing, gardening, dancing and was a wealth of knowledge of sports and construction. His favorite endeavor though, was spending time with family and friends and sharing in their laughs and love. He will be dearly missed by all. Besides his loving wife of 42 years, he is survived by his mother Phyllis Freeman, his two sons, Patrick Freeman and his partner, David Stearns of NYC, Ryan Freeman and his partner, Emily Snyder of Beverly, and his daughter, Meaghan McEachern and her husband Sean of Reading, his loyal canine companion, Pippin, his two brothers, William E. Freeman, Jr. and his wife Suzanne Freeman of Peabody and Paul and his wife Sallie Freeman of Holliston, his brother-in-law George Donahue and Patricia Donahue of Roslindale, his brother-in-law Thomas Donahue and Mary Eisenhauer Donahue of Medford, MA and his sister-in-law Claire (Donahue) McMahon and Edward McMahon of West Roxbury. He is also survived by several wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and several dearly loved friends. His funeral will be Friday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Cabot St, Beverly to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Beverly.
