Obituary of Maria Filomena (Bettencourt) Ortins

Maria Filomena (Bettencourt) Ortins, 63, of Peabody, died peacefully on Thursday, September 14, 2014 at the NSMC Salem Hospital with her family at her side. She was the wife of the late Joao Manuel Ortins. She was born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal on March 7, 1954, the daughter of Terezinha (Mendonca ) Bettencourt and the late Joao Bettencourt and was raised there before moving to the United States 45 years ago. She had been a resident of Peabody for the past 40 years. Maria had been employed at the Printed Circuit Company in Woburn for 15 years prior to her retirement 16 years ago. Maria was very active in the Portuguese community in Peabody being a member of the Azorian Holy Ghost Society and Our lady of Fatima Church and enjoyed cooking and traveling. She also liked to grow her vegetables in her garden and watch the Portuguese Soccer team on her TV. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Elizabeth Ortins of Middleton, MA, a daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Matthew Harvey of Quincy, MA, her precious grandchildren, Vincent and Caroline Ortins of Middleton, her mother Terezinha Bettencourt of Peabody; her siblings and spouses, Maria Jesus and Adroaldo Machado, Maria Joao and Manuel Silveira and Connie and Joseph Ortins all of Peabody, John and Fatima Bettencourt of Gloucester, Francisco and Paula Bettencourt of Haverhill, and Maria Teresina Bettencourt of Salem and many nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 3:00 until 6:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her Funeral will be held on Monday at 8:00 AM from the funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in Our lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery Salem.
