Obituary of Joseph J. Mistretta

Joseph J. Mistretta, 81, husband of the late Katherine (Zabarowski) Mistretta, died unexpectedly early Monday morning at the Seaview Retreat Nursing Home, following a brief, illness. Born in Lawrence, he was the son of the late Frank & Alfia (Cavalarro) Mistretta. He had lived in Peabody for most of his youth and had attended Peabody Public Schools and was a graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1939. He later moved to Rye Beach, NH and he also had lived in Ely & Las Vegas Nevada, before moving back to the North Shore in 1996. He was a veteran of WWII, having served with the United States Army and had seen action overseas and was wounded and disabled in Nuremberg, Germany. After the war he had worked for a few years for AC Lawrence in the maintenance department and later he attended Burdette College and had received an associates degree in Accounting. He was a member of the D.A. V. in Portsmouth, NH. He is survived by 3 brothers, Salvatore Mistretta of Peabody, John Mistretta of Beverly, and Alfio Mistretta of Newburyport; a sister, Josephine Lemay of Beverly and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His funeral service will be held on Thursday at 8:30 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility (978) 531-0398, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Wednesday from 5-8 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. A Pro Burial-Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 20, 2002 at 9:00 AM in St. John’ s Church, Peabody.
