Obituary of Luis Soares de Azevedo

Luis Soares de Azevedo,82, of Lynn MA and Portugal, husband of the late Maria (Lopes) Azevedo, died Wednesday May 10, 2006 at the Peabody Glen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Peabody after a brief illness. Mr. Azevedo was born on April 25, 1924 in Ponte da Barca, Portugal. He was raised and educated in Braga, Portugal. Following the death of his wife in 2002, he moved to United States to reside with his son Carlos in Lynn. Mr. Azevedo was a prominent business entrepreneur in Portugal who owned and operated a funeral home, several convenient stores and a bakery along with his wife from 1950 until his retirement in 1988. He enjoyed his grapevines, gardening, fishing, traveling and was also an avid reader. He is survived by 3 sons and their wives, Luis L. and Idalina Azevedo of Middleton, Jose M. and Maria Azevedo of Windham NH, Carlos A. and Maria Azevedo of Lynn; a brother, Franklin Soares de Azevedo of Portugal; 6 grandchildren, Orlando Azevedo of Beverly, Edgar Azevedo of Middleton, Renato Azevedo of Haverhill, Milena Azevedo of Peabody, Romeu Azevedo and Veronica Azevedo both of Lynn; 2 great grandchildren, Aiden Azevedo of Haverhill and Sophia Grace Azevedo of Beverly and many nieces & nephews. Family and friends may pay their respect Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St. location Peabody. Burial will be in Portugal. Family members operate Gomes Travel Agencies.
