Obituary of Bartley "Bart" A. Rogers

Bartley A. Rogers, Jr. PEABODY – Bartley A.“Bart” Rogers, 95, beloved husband of the late Emedia L. “Mitzie” (DiPietropaolo) Rogers, died peacefully on Friday September 29, 2017 at the Brooksby Village residence in Peabody following an extended illness, while in the comforting presence of his family. Born in Maxwell, New Mexico, and raised in Iowa Park, Texas, he was the son of the late Bartley A. and Hazel (Smith) Rogers. He also lived in Delaware for many years, and moved to the Peabody area where he lived for the last 11 years. He enlisted in the United States Air Force to serve his patriotic duty for 20 years. He served in both World War II and the Korean War. He was a trained machinist, and trained to become a pilot. Bart was a retired and an accomplished U.S. Air Force Pilot who attained the rank of Major. Mr. Rogers later earned a degree from the University of Maryland in Military History, and lived in the Wilmington, DE area for over 30 years where, with his wife, he raised his family. He worked after the military as a Management Analyst with the State of Delaware for his private sector career. During his retirement, he was a Docent for the Hagley Museum, the former industrial site of the original gun powder works of the DuPont Company, founded in 1802. He used his machinist skills to make handy items that the museum may have needed for display or in its operations. Bart was passionately dedicated to his family. He enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies, and had a great skill for Table Tennis, now referred to as Ping Pong. While playing at Brooksby, he became their “Olympic Champion” as they played opponents from other Ericson Communities. He is survived by a daughter Elizabeth “Beth” Rogers and her husband Richard Tenby of Boston; a son Bartley A. Rogers, III of Lynn; a grandson Owen Tenby of Boston; two sisters, Patsy and Christine, both of Texas; a brother Jerry Rogers of Mississippi, and several nieces and nephews. Following cremation, a Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday October 14, 2017 at 10 AM in the Brooksby Village Chapel, followed by a reception. Urn burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the USO.
