Obituary of Anthony M. Silva

Anthony M. Silva, 93 SALEM -- Anthony M. Silva, age 93, died after a lengthy illness on October 8 at the Rosewood Nursing Home with his loving family at his side. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Lucy Silva, with whom he was married for 69 years. “Tony” is survived by his sister Norma of Marblehead, and four sons: Bob and his wife Peggy, Tom and his wife Catherine all of whom reside in Nahant, Tony and his wife Kathie who live in Epping NH, and Jack who lives in Newburyport. Tony was born in Peabody and spent most his adult life living in Salem with his family. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all of whom he loved very much. Tony, a graduate of Peabody High School, was a life-long communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Salem. He was one of many of the young men of his generation who served in the Army. Tony landed in Normandy during the invasion of Europe, and was the recipient of a Purple Heart while serving there. Tony was the owner and manager of John T Berry’s jewelry store in Peabody square for many years. Tony was a loving, dedicated and supportive father. As a parent, he assured that his children had many and varying recreational, athletic, and educational opportunities throughout their lives. Tony took pleasure attending many of these events throughout his life. Tony enjoyed traveling. This included many trips within the U.S. He very much enjoyed taking more than a dozen trips to Ireland with Lucy. They especially enjoyed vacationing on the southwest coast of Ireland, and made lifelong friends there. From his experiences on the trips, Tony became an avid reader of Irish history, and studying the Gaelic language. Tony proudly volunteered his services for over 20 years participating in fund raising activities at Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody, once serving as President of the Athletic Club. Tony was a fan of Boston professional teams including the Patriots and Red Sox. Tony was predeceased by his parents Mary and Manual Silva as well as his three sisters all of whom lived in the Peabody or New Hampshire area throughout their adult lives. Tony was a very loving husband, brother, father, uncle, and friend to all the people close to him. The family would like to thank all the staff and friends at the Rosewood Nursing Home who provided Tony with such wonderful care during his stay there. Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday October 13, 2017 at 9 AM from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM celebrated in his memory at the Immaculate Conception Church in Salem. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to The Armed Services Veteran’s agency of your choice.
