Obituary of Jennie (Kleros) Angelakis
Jennie (Kleros) Yiannoula Angelakis, of Peabody died Thursday at the age of 103 at her residence following a short illness. She was the wife of the late Theodore Angelakis.
She was born in Sparta Greece on September 5, 1902 the daughter of the late Constantine and Maria (Fassoulopoulos) Kleros and came to America landing on Ellis Island on April 1, 1921. She first resided in Lowell working in the Cotton Mills with her sister, Anna Neofotistos and later moved to Cambridge with her brother, Louis Kleros and worked in a Piano factory. Jennie met her husband Theodore here and they were married in Cambridge on February 3, 1924.
They started their marriage at 6 Dennis St., Peabody and later moved to 68 Aborn St. and then to 10 Tracey Street where she raised her four children. She resided at her currant address for the past 56 years.
During her years in America, it was God, her Church, her faith , prayers and Orthodox traditions and strong family values that were most important in her life.
Her desire for independence led her to study in English the driver's manual and obtain her Massachusetts driver's license which she kept up into her nineties.
Jennie was active in Church and was a member of the Philoptophos Society of St. Vasilios Greek Church. She was recently chosen this year by Metropolitan Methodios of Boston to receive the 2006 Ministries Award of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Peter and Catherine Angelakis of
Stratham, NH, Spiro and Georgia Angelakis of Memphis, Tenn. and Luz Maria Angelakis of Peabody, a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Emmanuel Nicolakis of Peabody, her nine devoted grandchildren, Theo Nicolakis, Director of Internet Ministries of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of New York, Joni Wood, Maria Angelakis, Theodore Peter Angelakis, Frank Angelakis, Jana Angelakis, Kara La Fortune Marla Angelakis, and Ted Spiro Angelakis, 14 great grandchildren, 4 great, great grandchildren, a special neighbor and friend, Nancy Craigen and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Peabody Police Sgt. Charles Angelakis and the sister of the late Louis Kleros, Panagiota Papamichael, Harriet Nichols, Athena Romeos and Anna Neofotistos.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by Services in St. Vasilios Church, Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Vasilios Altar Fund for the Camp, c/o 7 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960 in her memory.
