Obituary of Marjorie M Tavares

Marjorie M. (Sylvester) Tavares PEABODY – Marjorie M. (Sylvester) Tavares, 96 beloved wife of the late Joseph A. Tavares, Sr., died peacefully at her home in Jacksonville, FL, on Wednesday October 11, 2017, while in the comforting presence of her family. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian (Coite) Sylvester. She grew up in Danvers and graduated from Danvers High School. She lived in Peabody over 65 years, and lived in Florida the last three years. She worked at Sylvania during World War II, and later at Ideal Baby Shoe prior to focusing on nurturing her family. Marjorie was a member with her husband of the Portuguese-American War Veterans Post 1 in Peabody. She was a faithful and devoted member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody, enjoyed cake decorating, doing crochet and created hook rugs. She is survived by two sons and a daughter, Joseph A. Tavares, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Jacksonville, FL, Robert Tavares of Manchester, NH, and Linda Nielson and her husband Michael of Houghton Lake, MI; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law Joan & her husband David Carlson of Bethel, ME, and several nieces and nephews. She was mother of the late John Tavares, and sister of the late Joseph A. Sylvester, and Gertrude Sylvester. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Saturday October 21, 2017 at 8 A.M. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Friday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
