Obituary of Mary E (Scanlon) DeRoo
Mary E (Scanlon) DeRoo, 87, of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, died Sunday morning at her home surrounded by her loving family following an illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Eugene J. DeRoo. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Elizabeth (Hyde) Scanlon. She was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, class of 1945. She has lived in Peabody for the past 54 years. Mary was employed as a supervisor in the bookkeeping department of Danvers Savings Bank for many years until retiring many years ago. Mary was a very giving person who enjoyed donating to Big Brother and Big Sister, the Epilepsy Foundation, and the American Cancer Society among many other charitable organizations she donated to. She also enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and loved watching NCIS on TV. She is survived by her three sons, Brian and his wife Lucy DeRoo of Peabody, Mark DeRoo of Topsfield, and Gary DeRoo of Saugus, her daughter Patrice and her husband Richard Kerwin of Peabody, her siblings, Jack and his wife Pat Scanlon of Lynn, and Eleanor Carroll of Lynn. She is also survived by her devoted 7 grandchildren and a great grandchild. She was predeceased by her sister Margaret McCully. Her funeral will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Adelaide’s Church, Lowell St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
