Obituary of Francis R Bishop, Jr

Francis R Bishop, JR, 74, of Middleton and formerly of Peabody, died early Saturday morning at the Massachusetts General Hospital of lung cancer. He was the devoted husband of Elaine (Costello) Bishop with whom he shared over 49 years of marriage. Born in Chelsea, he was the son of the late Francis R. Bishop, Sr and Lillian F (Babineau) Bishop. He was raised in Chelsea, later lived in Peabody for 28 years and has spent the last 7 years living in Middleton. Francis was a graduate of Everett Vocational High School and the Wentworth Institute of Technology. He then was employed as an aircraft mechanic for Continental Air Lines for over 30 years before retiring. Francis loved golfing especially at Unicorn Golf Course in Stoneham, was an avid reader, and loved doing Sudoku. His favorite endeavor though was spending time with his grandchildren and treating them to Richardson’s Ice Cream. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Kerri and Christopher Porter of Winchester, and Amy and Daniel Newberg of Danvers, his brother and sisters-in-law, Robert and Ann Bishop of Chelsea, Christine Bishop of Stoneham, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Joseph Domelowicz of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Beverly and Michael Henry of Revere, and is also survived by his beloved three grandchildren, Ainsley and Callahan Porter and Riley Newberg, the family dog, Bailey Porter, and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother William Bishop. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Funeral Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the MGH Cancer Center, 55 Fruit St, Boston, MA 02114.
