Obituary of John D "Jack" Craig
John D “Jack” Craig, 90, of Peabody, died unexpectedly on Thursday at Salem Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Marion (Freeman) Craig with whom he shared over 67 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Stanley and Hilda (Livingstone) Craig. He was raised and educated in Lynn and upon marrying his wife, has lived in Peabody for the past 67 years. Jack was a veteran of World War II who served with the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. Jack was employed as a cabinet maker for Cliftondale Woodworking for over 20 years before retiring in 1989. In addition to woodworking, he also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Besides his loving wife of 67 years, he is survived by his son J. Douglas Craig and his wife Patti of Eliot, ME, his daughter, Linda and her husband Frank Durgin of Denver, CO, his four grandchildren, Jason and his wife Kate Craig, Matthew Durgin and his companion Brenda Welch, Scott and his wife Rachel Durgin, and Timothy Durgin, his two great grandchildren, Ian Douglas Craig and Jack Thomas Craig. He is survived by his sister-in-law Sophie Craig and beloved family friend Beatrice Caruso and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Lawrence Craig, Evelyn Dow, Thelma Riley, Phyllis Craig, and Carol Ann Barrasso. Following cremation, visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 10 AM until 12 PM followed by his Funeral Service at 12:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to veteran’s organization as Jack was a faithful supporter of the Veteran Homeless Shelter in Boston and he enjoyed attending veteran events and activities at local schools.
