Obituary of Esther (Stathos) Crowell

Esther (Stathos) Crowell passed away at the home of her daughter surrounded by loving family on Saturday October 28. She was 97. She was predeceased by her husband Harold Crowell, her parents, Georgia and Charles Stathos, her sister Stella Stathos and brother James Stathos. Esther is survived her daughter Gail Buscanera and daughter-in-law Catherine Tatlis, her grandson, Mathew Buscanera and his wife Ashley, her sister Anne “Honey” Tsapatsaris, her sister-in-law, Eileen Stathos, her brother-in-law, John Whittier and his wife Sheila, her sister-in-law, Lynn Whittier, her four great grandchildren, Nathan Sullivan, and Draken, Astraea, and Persephone Buscanera and also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and one great great niece and three great great nephews. Esther was a lifelong resident of Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School, class of 1937. She worked for Cannon Electric and EG&G which later became Perk and Elmer retiring in her mid-70’s. Esther and her husband loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Puerto Rico, California and many trips to Disney in Florida with their grandson. They also enjoyed trips to the Balsams and Stage Neck Inn in Maine. On their 50th anniversary the spent time in New Orleans enjoying Jazz and the cuisine. Esther was an avid reader and in younger years enjoyed golfing and watching tournaments. She later traveled to Greece, Canada, England, and Alaska and many areas in the USA with family, friends, and the Daughters of Penelope group. Esther was a member of the Daughters of Penelope in Peabody for over 35 years and was involved in the building of the Penelope House and Battered Women’s Shelter. She was a member of St. Vasilios Church her whole life. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and auntie and will be missed by all. A special thanks to Lydia Burke for the loving care she provided to my mom in her final hours. Her funeral will be on Friday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody followed by her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St. Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St, Peabody.
