Obituary of Phyllis M. (Cavanaugh) Meagher

Phyllis M (Cavanaugh) Meagher, 89, of Peabody, died peacefully Tuesday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late William F Meagher. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late James J. and Mary Elizabeth (Welch) Cavanaugh. She was a life-long resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1945. Phyllis had many different jobs throughout her life; her favorite was with the city of Peabody as a clerk in the Treasurer’s Office for nearly 20 years before retiring. She was an avid reader and loved spending time with her grandchildren and sharing in all of their endeavors. Earlier in life she was active in St. Ann’s Parish and the Girl Scouts of America. She and her husband danced with the Riverside Squares of Danvers. They enjoyed many close friendships in dance, with neighbors, and around South Peabody. She will be dearly missed by all. Phyllis is survived by her three sons, William F. Meagher Jr. and his wife Joan of Lawrence, Sean and his wife Karen Meagher of Peabody and Andy and his wife Julie Meagher of Beverly, her daughter, Maura Meagher of Jamaica Plain, her brother, Paul Cavanaugh of Key West, FL, and is also survived by her beloved 5 grandchildren, Sean Jr, Meghan, Laina, Kyra, and Sofia and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband William, her daughter Ellen Meagher and her siblings, Robert Cavanaugh and Patricia Putnam. Following her cremation, Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Phyllis’s name to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, C/O Care Dimensions, 75 Liberty St, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
