Obituary of Raymond J. Babineau
Raymond J Babineau, 96, of Lynn, died peacefully on Friday morning with his family by his side at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Catherine “Kitty” (Ford) Babineau. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Armand J. and Mary (Gallant) Babineau. He was a lifelong resident of Lynn and a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, class of 1939. Upon his graduation from high school, Raymond went to work as a welder for General Electric in Lynn and was employed for over 43 years as welder before he finally retired. Following his retirement, he enjoyed wintering in the Bonita Springs area of Florida. After three years at General Electric, Raymond enlisted with the United States Navy and served for four years with the Navy until 1946. He returned to the United States Navy in 1950 and served for a brief time during the Korean War before his final discharge in December of 1950. Raymond was one of the founding members of the Franco-American War Vets Post 12 in Lynn and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Lynn as well. He also was a Scout Master for many years for Troop 26 at St Jeans in Lynn. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family at Newfoundland Lake in New Hampshire, however, his favorite endeavor was spending time with his grandchildren and sharing in all their sports and other activities and was an active participant in their lives. He will be dearly missed by all. He is survived by his two sons, Raymond “Buzz” Babineau Jr., and Ronald and his wife Catherine Babineau, all of Lynn, his sister, Marie Y. Babineau of Lynn, his companion of 16 years, Rita Sonnemann of McHenry, IL, and by his beloved 5 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sisters, Rita Donahue and Emily Monaco, and by is daughter-in-law, Grace E. Babineau. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Church, Lynn to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Jean’s Cemetery, Lynn.
