Obituary of Sr. Julia St. John Corcoran SND

Sister Julia St. John Corcoran S.N.D. (Catherine Bridget Corcoran) , died peacefully at the Notre Dame long term Care Center in Worcester on Thursday, November 16, 2017. She was born in Lynn, MA to Michael and Margaret (Gilbane) Corcoran both of Ireland on October 8, 1927 and was raised in Lynn before entering the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur on August 5, 1946. She made her first vows on January 30, 1949 and her final vows on July 30, 1954. Sister received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Emmanuel College and Masters in Education from Salem State University. During her years of ministry as a Sister of Notre Dame, Julia served in East Boston, Waltham, Marblehead, Peabody, Shrewsbury, Woburn, Danvers, Tyngsboro, Lawrence and Somerville. Sister was also a licensed practical Nurse which she used at St Julie Billiard Residential Care Home in Ipswich for many years. She was one of thirteen children of the Corcoran family of Lynn that included her surviving siblings Mary Bongiorno, Eileen Queena, and Joan Barceleau. She was predeceased by her siblings, Margaret Minichiello, Genevieve Doucette, and Ann , Robert, Francis, Joseph, Michael, Dominic and John Corcoran. She also leaves several nieces and nephews as well as her Sisters of the Notre Dame de Namur order. Sister Julia’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 20, 2017 at Our Lady of Queen Chapel, 30 Jeffrey’s Neck Road, Ipswich at 2:30 PM. A Visitation will be there from 12:30 until 2:30 PM and a Prayer Service at 1:30 PM. Her Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 190 Lynnfield Street, Lynn on Tuesday at 11:30 AM. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Notre Dame retirement fund at 30 Jeffrey’s Neck Rd., Ipswich, MA 01938.
